Ch 4 (half one)

The shop bell tinkled as a prospective buyer came into look at the selection. Lilly breathed a sigh of relief, it had been nearly a week without any sales and she would have to close down her shop if someone didn't come in soon. Ahe wiped her hands on her apron and went into the front of the shop to see if she could assist. She smiled as Jaiden sitting at a tin table and had to stop her heart from fluttering. It had been a good month since Tom found him on her stoop, but it only felt like days ago. She came to love chats with him while sitting on the side of his bed, and could never sleep right if they did not have their nightly tea together. She smiled and felt her heart swell in her chest as she remembered last night, how he had taken her hand while she sat next to him and carried on as though they had know eachother for 5 years instead of weeks.
It was odd how he seemed to know every thought of hers, she thought, because while she was thinking about last night, he looked up and smiled sheepishly at her. She shook her head, "stop thinking nonsense Lilly." He then let out a small chuckle and she looked at him curiously.
"You better attend to your customer Lil, instead of stairing at me like a love stricken puppy in need of a bone." She laughed and threw the towel she had been holding at him.
"You flatter yourself Jaiden, I only stair because it seems as though you have something green stuck inbetween your teeth." She then raised her right eyebrow in expectation. He just let out a big greenless grin and gestured to the young woman in green out front.
"She sounds like she could be fun." Jaiden said as he rolled his eyes.
It only took Lilly a few seconds to realise what Jaiden was refering to. The woman that had just entered the shop was pretty looking enough, she thought, and she approached her.
"Hello, can I innterest you in..." Lilly began, but she was cut off by a shrill voice that can not have belonged to the sweet looking girl standing beside her.
"Well, its about time! Did you know that i have been waiting here for so long i wouldnt be suprised if i had a few wrinkles of age. And that man over there! what are you doing letting men just sit down and stair at beautiful women as they enter this... you call this a shop do you?"
As she was saying this, she started to fuss with her hair, making sure that every single one was in place. Lilly stepped forward to examn the womans face closly. "Say miss, i think you are right, you do seem to be getting some lines around the eyes. I do apologize, im afraid that im not as young as i used to be." The young woman looked appalled and frantically reached for a pocket mirror.
"Why, you look hardly older than i! surely that is no excuse." she proclaimed as she assured herself that not a hair of a line was to be found.
"But of course you are right miss, but you see, no matter what age i claim, 'tis still the truth that i am not as young as i used to be. Why just last month i was a month younger than i am today, and im starting to feel the age creep up on me already. One could hardly believe that i was a meer 19 years of age! Funny how time flys." Lilly then giggled and the woman looked completely shocked at this slip of a woman making mockery of age. Age is not something that one jokes about here, for it implies that one will get old and it appeared that this young woman was in denial that she might infact, one day, become her mothers age.
"Would you happen to care for rasin bread? I have pleanty in store for ladies such as yourself." Lilly was hoping that her boldness didn't deter the womans appitite, but everything went well, the woman buying a vast amount of food for one her size and she wondered if she was going to devour it all at once. Lilly hid a snigger at that image and continued to go about her duties.
'Twas odd, Lilly thought, that when ever she was thinking about something amusing, her strange house guest seemed to be laughing right along with her...
